My Performing Arts Class put on a production of Elf Jr. in the theatre in January, right after Christmas Break. Everyone had a role to play, even if there weren’t speaking parts.

I played the role of someone, Buddy’s brother, who lives in New York City.

I had one scene near the end of the play, Buddy’s New York family is reunited in his apartment.

In addition to learning my line for this rolel, I also played the scene changer. Between each scene, my EA and I would wheel out to the middle of the stage. While he helped wheel my chair, I would hold a large placard that described the next scene to the audience.

Every time I came onto stage with the placards I would get a round of applause.

My motorized wheelchair was stuck at home because our wheelchair lift wasn’t working. I did not have my manual chair at home because it was getting ordered. So I had only a very uncomfortable manual chair to use that day. My parents and brother helped carry me down the front stairs that day.

I learned that a ramp and a manual chair are still very important.
